Today we celebrated our Easter holidays by wearing in Easter bonnets that we created and made at home.  We are super creative, don’t you think?!  Teacher is amazed by our wonderful creations!

World Book Day in Junior Infants

Today we celebrated World Book Day in school. (We were a little early celebrating!!)

We wore our pyjamas to school and brought in our favourite book and teddy bear.  Teacher read us some stories and then we read and talked about our favourite books with 3^rd and 4^th class and drank hot chocolate with marshmallows and had some chocolate chip cookies too!  

It was such a fun day – we wish school was like this every day!!! J

Junior Infants Grandparents Day

                                Grandparents Day in Junior Infants

Here in Scoil Mhuire we celebrated Grandparents Day as part of Catholic Schools Week.  Junior Infants were so excited to have their Grannies and Grandads come in for a little visit.  We made some special handprint cards for them which were very much appreciated!  During the visit, we played some interactive games on the IWB, we read stories together and we made some things with the activities.  It was such a lovely afternoon! Our Grannies and Grandads enjoyed a cup of tea and some biscuits and a chat with other grandparents before they went home.  It was a really special day!

Junior Infants Nativity Play

Junior Infants proudly performed the Nativity Play on Tuesday and Wednesday for parents and grandparents! They were fantastic at learning all their lines and all the songs for the performance!
They were super proud of themselves as was Ms Ormiston!!

Student Council Shoebox Appeal

The Student Council along with all of the pupils of Scoil Mhuire have been very busy for the last couple of weeks. The student council (Lilly, Mikey, Anna, Seán, Sarah and Faye) along with Ms Tinnelly decided that they wanted to do something that would help those who are less fortunate than us at Christmas time. We did some research and decided to take part in a 'Shoebox Appeal'. We wanted to help people in the surrounding areas. As a whole school, we gathered lots of amazing toys, stationary, clothes, hygiene products and some WOW gifts for our Shoeboxes. The Student Council then worked very hard to sort all of the items into appropriate boxes based on gender and age. We wrapped and sent our 37 beautiful heartfelt Shoeboxes off to lots of children in need!

Cross Country 2018

Cumann na mBunscol Cross Country

So the day started by getting on the bus at 9:00am sharp. The race was in Bellewstown Racecourse. 60 schools attended with 1300 racing.

The first race was the small schools U-11 Girls and they were Emma, Molly, Ellie-Mai, Shannon, Lilly and Anna.  Lilly came in 10^th out of more than 200 people! Anna came in 65^th! All of the girls did brilliant!

The second race for us was the U-11 Boys the participants were Seán Mac Mahon, Séan Cassidy, Cathal, Lee, Mikey, Jack, Shane Bennet and Ódhran. Ódhran came 26^th out of more than 200 people. Jack came in 29^th. Seán Mac came in 51^st.

We came third overall in U-11s!

The next race for us was U-13s. The participants were Fionn, Shane Cahill, Cian, Joe and Caoimhín. Caoimhín came in 104^th out more than 200 people. Great results for all!

Next were the U-13 girls and the participants were Charlotte, Amy, Jane, Cara.

Charlotte came 7^th, our highest finish on the day. On the bus we had the craic.

We had a great time and we are very proud of ourselves!

Junior Infants Christmas Shoebox Gifts

In Junior Infants, as part of Religion and SPHE, we decided to get involved in the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal.  We watched a video from last year showing all the children receiving their shoeboxes and wanted to share our love with them this year.  We each brought in something for the shoeboxes; toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, colouring books, markers, copies, pencils, flip flops, sunglasses, hats, toys, teddies, sweets and lots of other items too.  Teacher couldn’t believe how generous we all were, we filled 5 boxes full! Two boys in our class even filled their own shoebox each with their family which was very kind and generous of them.  Ms Ormiston dropped off our Christmas Shoebox gifts and Team Hope will deliver them right into the hands of some of the world’s most vulnerable children – many of whom will receive no other gift this Christmas. For some it’s the first gift they’ve ever received.

It’s hope, it’s God’s love, it’s joy and excitement – It’s the whole of Christmas wrapped up in a Shoebox!
