Autism Awareness Day 2021

All the boys and girls in Scoil Mhuire learned about Autism Awareness last week in school.  They watched videos, had discussions in class and created slogans to promote Autism Awareness in our school.

The pupils in Bramble created an Art project entitled "We all fit together" and the whole school contributed. Every student in Scoil Mhuire decorated a piece of a jigsaw puzzle and the whole puzzle was pieced together as part of the Art project.

On Friday April 23rd we had an Autism Awareness day.  Everybody wore blue to school and we had Blue balloons in every class.  It was a lovely day.

Congratulations to the Pen Licence Recipients in Room 1

The Pen Licence in Scoil Mhuire is a much talked about topic at the moment especially in Room 1. Earlier in the week Ms Martin explained to the children that it would soon be time for the children in 3rd Class to graduate from writing using a pencil.

Ms Martin and the children discussed how to obtain a pen licence and displayed it on a checklist pictured below.

Following this announcement, all the children have been putting in their very best efforts to present neat cursive handwriting across all curricular areas.

On Friday last, Mrs Ward visited Room 1 to present certificates and pens to the first six children in the class who have earned their pen licences. Ms Martin would like to congratulate Halle-Mae, Maya, James Cassidy, James Carville, Aoibhe and Katie for consistently using beautiful cursive handwriting. Maith sibh!

All the children in 3rd Class are determined to continue using their best writing in school. It is no doubt that there will be more pen licence recipients in 3rd Class next Friday! Ms Martin is very excited and proud of all the boys and girls.

Farm Safe Schoolers - Module One

Scoil Mhuire Moynalty is thrilled to be participating in the Farm Safe Schools programme this year. The aim of this exciting programme is to engage, educate and empower children to become farm safety ambassadors. Scoil Mhuire hope to complete three different modules in order to receive the ‘Farm Safe School’ award at the end of the year.

Ms Martin and Ms Malone are delighted to announce that the Farm Safe Schools Journey is successfully up and running in Bubble Two. The boys and girls engaged in Module One ‘Farmer, Farm and Field Safety’ before the Easter break. It was a fantastic learning experience for the children. The teachers even learned a thing or two about improving safety measures on farms.

Topic 1 - Farm Visit Checklist

To commence this learning, the children identified different types of farms, various hazards on a working farm and numerous ways to keep safe when visiting a farm as a whole class. Following discussion, the children worked together to compile a Farm Visit Checklist displayed in the image below. The boys and girls know that although a farm is a tempting place  to explore, it is a workplace. The children promise to revisit the checklist before going to farm yards in the future.

Topic 2 - Know the Safety Signs

The children learned to recognise the various safety signs displayed on farms. They learned the different colours, symbols and hand signals to know the signage. Check the children out displaying their knowledge of the signals as they complete a wonderful webinar presented by Alma Jordan.

The pupils also completed a worksheet inviting them to organise safety signs into the correct groups. Scroll down to see the children at work.

Topic 3 - Working at Heights

Lastly the children learned about working at heights and how to avoid trips and falls on a farm. The children discussed and recorded the main causes of falls on farm yards and safety measures to prevent such accidents.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed engaging in Module One and can’t wait to delve into the content of Module Two. There are definitely some Farm Safety Officers of the future amongst Bubble Two.
