Fairtrade Research in Room One

Room One recently explored the topic of ‘Fairtrade.’ The children learned that supporting Fairtrade offers the consumer a powerful way to reduce poverty in developing countries. The boys and girls identified the many Fairtrade products lining supermarket shelves today such as bananas, coffee, tea and chocolate to name but a few. The boys and girls noted the Fairtrade logo displayed on all of their  products.

Although Fairtrade products can be more expensive, the pupils learned that the farmers and workers who grow the food and drink get a better price for their produce. This extra money, known as the Fairtrade Premium, is used to develop and support the lifestyle of disadvantaged communities in developing countries.

The children celebrated Fairtrade by writing superb Acrostic poems displayed below.

The boys and girls also created amazing art work using only Fairtrade wrappers to add a design. Check them out below!

Ms Martin and the children promise to spread the important message of all things Fairtrade and to support this amazing foundation in the future.
