4th and 5th class

Over the month of December the boys and girls in 4th and 5th class were working hard to collect 30 stars which would earn them a Christmas treat. It was a hot chocolate and Christmas movie party!! And what a party it turned out to be! Check out the children sippin some hot coco and enjoying the movie!!

The boys and girls thoroughly deserved this Christmas treat as they proved they can work hard and work as a team to earn the stars.

Also check out some of the cool art ideas the children completed over the last month to get us in the Christmas spirit!! The boys and girls painted some winter scenes and made some snowmen Christmas cards!!

To all of the families of the boys and girls in 4th and 5th class I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Mr. Aaron Browne.

3rd and 4th class

The boys and girls in Ms. Daly's class have been busy doing lots of Winter/Christmas Art, listening to Christmas songs and getting into the spirit of Christmas for the month of December.  We had a hot chocolate party to celebrate the holidays. The boys and girls have worked hard in Term 1 and we are all looking forward to and excellent second Term.

The children made some beautiful Winter scenes using tinfoil, markers and spray bottles of water.

We made some hashtag...Elfies!

The boys and girls were catching snowflakes!

Elf Fun in Room 2

We had a very special visitor to room 2 during the month of December. Our elf arrived all the way from the North Pole. We read a letter that our elf brought us and the children decided to name our elf 'Snowy'.

Snowy brought the children a lovely chocolate advent calendar to say hello! Each morning, Snowy was found in a different spot in the classroom. Snowy was cheeky, clever and full of mischief. Snowy and room one's elf  'Tinsel' became the best of friends and were often found together getting up to all sorts of tricks!!

We have had great fun searching for Snowy each morning and he even helped us out with some marshmallows so that we could have our very own hot chocolate party.

We have been so lucky to have an Elf in our classroom this year and we wish Snowy and Tinsel a happy Christmas and a safe return to the North Pole!

Elfventures in Room 1

Wednesday, December 1st, was a hugely memorable day in Room 1. A special delivery all the way from the North Pole arrived in the classroom. Upon investigating, the children discovered that it was the annual return of one of Santa’s little helpers, Tinsel the elf.

Tinsel immediately got to work with his playful mischief and adventures. Of course he observed the ‘elf’tacular behaviour in Room 1 too.

Snowy, the elf from Room 2, often played with Tinsel. They appeared to have so much fun together. Check out their antics below!

Sadly, on December 22nd, it was time for both Tinsel and Snowy to make one last flight back to the North Pole. Ms Martin and Ms Malone are certain that the elves reported all acts of kindness and excellent behaviour to Santa Claus each night. All of the pupils and staff in Scoil Mhuire are definitely on The Nice List this year.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year in Junior Infants

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Junior Infants have been as busy as the elves in Santa's workshop in the run up to Christmas. We have been working very hard in Finger Gym and in Aistear. We have learned a lot about Winter, the weather, arctic animals and about the Story of Christmas. Have a look at what we have been getting up in Room 6!

Christmas Tree Designs

In finger gym, we all designed and decorated our own individual Christmas trees. We then cut them out and put all the triangular trees together to make one large collaborative class Christmas tree. I think that you will agree that the Junior Infant work is tree-mendous!

A Chubby Little Snowman
In science we were learning about different types of materials. In art we used soft and fluffy cotton balls to decorate two paper plates. We then used felt to decorate and dress our snowmen up.
We learned a song about a chubby little snowman and we wondered was he friends with Frosty the Snowman!

Christmas Cube pictures and Pom Pom activities

We used the cubes to follow the Christmas patterns. We had a great time making the pictures of Wreaths, Santa and reindeer. We thought that it would be tricky but it was easy to follow the pattern. Our fingers are getting stronger by the day.
We then used the tweezers and pom poms to create different Christmas pictures. We really enjoyed making Christmas stockings, Santa, angels, and candy cakes with the pom poms.

The First Christmas

We have been learning about the story of Christmas in religion. Christmas is a very special time of year and Jesus was born on Christmas day. We learned all about Mary and Joseph's trip to Bethlehem and how the innkeeper was kind enough to let them stay in his stable. We also learned about all the visitors to the stable that night and how the Three Wise Men were guided by a bright star.
We made our own stable to retell the story.

On behalf of Junior Infants, we would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!
